Burlington, what?

Burlington Coat Factory might scare away some, but this recessionista braved the off-brand jungle and found these two magnificent, perfectly manufactured (no defects here!) accessories in the thick of it! I grabbed my son this pair of Ralph Lauren madras print sneakers, that I'll mix-and-match with all of his various polos. And I couldn't resist this lush, vibrant Missoni-esque scarf, full of fuschias, purples and greys....I even picked up an additional DKNY button-down for Ethan and another purple and green paisley pashmina for myself. If you ask me, I'd say a trip to BCF is worth unique finds like these!

Trendsetter - Sevan Bicacki

Exotic spice bazaars, majestic mosques, fairy tale like minarets and imposing Sultans. Istanbul, the only city in the world which has reigned as capital of three different empires, is without a doubt the greatest muse for the man known in the fine jewelry industry as “Lord of the Rings.” This particular artist stands in a league of his own. I came across his work while helping my girlfriend do some research for a Turkish-inspired shoot for Bazaar. Sevan Bicacki, THE Turkish jewelry designer, blew my hair back.
His jewelry designs and mostly the rings are like pieces of architectural masterpieces coming from the past. Every single piece will make you feel like you are wearing the miniature of a monument. History combined with stones; perfectly handcrafted designs make Sevan's rings unique and precious.

Sevan was born 1972 in Istanbul and grown up in a district called Samatya, which has been home to many Istanbul-born Armenians for centuries. He was 13 when he left school to start working with his hands in a trade. With the help of his father, Sevan started to work at the workshop of goldsmith-master Hovsep Chatak at the Grand Bazaar where is a huge complex which carries more than 500 years of traditional jewelry making within its walls.

There was so much motivation surrounding him to increase his knowledge of jewelry design and craftsmanship. After his master passed away, when Sevan was just 18, he had to make a choice between shifting to another workshop and going on his own. And even though he was young in comparison, Sevan started to work all alone in a tiny workshop space.

Byzantine and Ottoman palaces, churches, mosques, fountains, mausoleums and bazaars have been his every day environment for at least 20 years. His biggest wish was to convert his dreams shaped by the magical influence of Istanbul's history, which have been there for more than two thousand years.

Sevan says that there's no way to be isolated from the past and his surroundings. Istanbul's spirit inevitably fills its people and as just one of them, Sevan wanted to reflect it with his works. That's when he decided it was time for him to come up with his own collection. It took Sevan approximately a year to prepare the first part of it, which he debuted to the Turkish public in March, 2002. Sevan's first international debut took place in 2005, which is when he was selected one of 2005's five "Rising Stars" by the jury of JCK - Las Vegas Show's Design Center.

Sevan Bicakci's 2006 Design Atelier participation within the "Couture Jewelry Conference and Collection" was crowned by his winning of the "Town & Country Couture Award" for gemstone jewelry design. By August 2006, he was selected one of Tanzanite Foundation's five award winning independent designers.

25Park Purchase...finally!

I've decided to go with the "get as many pieces as possible" idea instead of springing for one large ticket item....here's what I got! My first choice was a Kain cobalt blue tank (this color looks amazing on me). Next, I live for pashminas and scarves, so this Missoni scarf was a no-brainer. It's multicolored so there are many possible outfits to come. Lastly, I chose a Rutzou mint green poncho that works perfectly with my "oversize top with leggings" look I've been going for lately. I'll get plenty of use out of these versatile pieces...I've also just recently ordered this pair of Branchini Calzoleria riding boots, which I'll pair with the poncho and leggings for an easy, breezy take on equestrian.

Decisions, Decisions...

In anticipation of receiving my Polyvore $500 gift certificate, I've been rummaging through 25park.com, trying to decide what I'll purchase. These two skirts have caught my eye. The Loeffler Randall (top right, $198) is pretty and sophisticated, and fits perfectly into my 'lunch and a cocktail' wardrobe. However, the Larsen Gray skirt (bottom right, $251) features two of this season's hottest trends: grommets and an exposed zipper. I'm in desperate need of some new jeans, and these tie-dye Sivvy slimfits (above, $215) are exactly what I'm looking for. I would wear all of these items, most days with a white or black jersey tank.

This Yigal Azrouel dress is such a dream...way out of my price range ($1910)...

If I were going to spend it all in one place, I'd most likely go with this By Marlene Birger white coat ($506). An essential in any spring wardrobe.

I've been wanting to add some new blazers and jumpers to my wardrobe...this Loeffler Randall jumper ($320) is gorgeous, and although I love this Elizabeth and James boyfriend blazer ($395), I think I'll find one comparable one at Zara...

Polyvore/25Park Contest Win!!!

So, this is a nice little surprise folks!!! My new guilty pleasure, Polyvore, has brought some goodies to my closet...well, not yet, exactly. I'm running to the mailbox every morning, I mean, waiting on the gift certificate to come in the mail. $500 gift certificate, to be exact.

I created this set while longing for some tranquility. While shuffling through the vast library of fashion items and art that is Polyvore, I came across this lovely portrait of a beautiful lady walking through a pasture. I don't know about you, but for me, the maxi dress defines comfortable, lazy days while maintaining a chic sense of style. So this was a perfect backdrop for the outfit I wanted to create. Adding an additional tree, branches, clay pots, and color panels gave the background more depth and texture.

The Vassilisa Maxi Dress from 25park.com was the perfect dress for this set....if only that gift certificate were for a larger amount....so gorgeous. The Elizabeth and James Kimono fleece cardigan is a perfect piece, all around. The silhouette is timeless, and Nude is the new black. This just may be one of my purchases....
The additional accessories dressed up the look even further. Who couldn't use $9400 in fabulous jewelry? The chandelier earrings were a great find on 25park.com, and the huge quartz Geode ring fit perfectly into my natural habitat. Beautifully adorned Antik Batik sandals and the Matta Dupatta shawl polished the look even more. This beautiful Gucci hobo reminded me of an earthy tapestry, and fit perfectly into my color palette. When I imagined being in this setting, I imagined smelling grass and citrus...Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca sends me there.

Looking at the finished set...I really felt like I was in that tranquil pasture. I'm really happy to see the responses from my fellow Polyvorians. Now to figure out exactly how I'll spend the money.....

Kingdom Come

If you haven't smelled Alexander McQueen's Kingdom, do yourself a favor and give it a whiff. Beware if you're a powdery light and airy perfume lover *BORING*. This is not a scent for the faint of heart. Christian Dior Addict's 'Hotter Sister'. BOLD. FIERCE. Just like this ensemble. Me all day. LOVE. I think I'll revisit Kingdom this fall, for sure...this season's Glam Goth/Rocker chic definitely calls for it.
